Alex & Oliver

Meet Alex and Oliver. When Alex is not helping save lives at her job as a New York City nurse she is with her cat Oliver, de-stressing and enjoying life. Alex sadly lost her other cat Leo last June unexpectedly, Oliver helped heal her broken heart and comforted her in a time of need.

Q: Tell me about what it was like becoming a pet parent?
A: Honestly adopting my cat significantly improved my life. My cat Oliver is my best friend and companion. He provides me with unconditional love and helps me de-stress.

Q: How did your pet come into your life?
A: About 2 years ago, a colleague of mine reached out to me and asked if I was interested in adopting a white/orange cat that she was fostering. She had found Oliver at a local gas station and he was so friendly, she was able to capture him and neuter him. At the time, I had another cat so I figured they would be best buddies. After adopting him, he was instantly friends with my original kitty Leo. They acted like brothers right off the bat. Sadly, last June I lost my Leo unexpectedly to heart failure. During that time, Oliver provided me with so much love and support, he helped me cope with the loss.

Q: What has your pet taught you about life?
A: He has taught me responsibility and unconditional love.

Q: Best life tip?
A: Always treat others with kindness.

Q: Best pet tip?
A: Treat your animal how they treat you, with unwavering love.

Q: Tell me about your passions?
A: I am passionate about working out, eating yummy food, and traveling. I recently explored Sedona, Arizona which is my new favorite place in the US. It was so beautiful!

Q: What is something you can’t live without?
A: Bravo, wine, and my cat Oliver

Q: What is something your pet cannot live without?
A: His wet food- he is obsessed! (Let’s just say when you head to the food area he licks his lips and gets very affectionate.

Q: Tips for first-time pet owners?
A: Having a pet is like having a child, you need to map out your expenses and time accordingly. Although cats are independent compared to dogs, I still need to provide him with the same basics. He was sick when I first adopted him so I have spent a lot of vet bills. I was happy to do it for him because I knew he needed me to care for him and would have suffered without me.

Q: What would be your must items for first-time pet owners? (products)
A: Cardboard toys for the cat to use for his nails!

Q: What you learned about/from your pet?
A: Responsibility and love!

Q: What is your favorite thing to do with your pet?
A: Cuddle and watch tv.
