How to Make Pet Pâté for 2 (You & your Pet!)

Pet lovers everywhere are realizing the importance of providing their furry friends with healthy and nutritious meals. While commercial pet foods are convenient, they often contain fillers, carbohydrates, and other ingredients that can be harmful to your pet’s health.

To ensure that your pet is getting the best, you may have considered making your own pet food, but this can often be overwhelming. Starting with a pared-down, pet-friendly pâté—and adding some ingredients for humans, too—can be a great way to start making dinner not just for your pet, but for yourself!

Pâté is a classic French dish that has been enjoyed for centuries (and in my house, for years). It is a smooth spread made from liver and other ingredients like herbs and spices. Pâté was originally made from the liver of wild game and was considered a luxury food for the wealthy. Today, pâté is made from a variety of meats, including chicken, duck, and even fish.

Our take on this classic French dish is not only delicious but also Whole30- and Keto-compliant

Organ meats like chicken livers are packed with essential vitamins, minerals, and protein. They are rich in B-vitamins like vitamin B12 and folate, as well as minerals like phosphorus, iron, copper, magnesium, and iodine. These nutrients are important for maintaining good health and are beneficial for both you and your pet.

  • Using a slotted spoon, transfer the remaining chicken livers and bacon fat, along with the onion, garlic, and rosemary mixture, to a food processor. Blend until smooth. Salt to taste if necessary. Scrape into a ramekin, cover with plastic wrap, and chill until firm.
Onions and Garlic are not suitable for your pet, so be sure to label each dish while chilling.

For your furry pal, serve the pâté slightly chilled in a dish, and for you, serve it on crackers, veggies, or apple slices.

Pet Pâté is suitable for both dogs and cats.
