So you are going on a trip, what do you do about your furry best friend? This decision is a tricky one whether for work or pleasure, it’s never fun having to leave your dog for a night let alone longer.
Let us help guide you in making that decision.

Ask yourself Is your pet a good traveler
Sometimes it stresses a pet out more being outside of their routine than being away from you and sometimes the reverse is true.
If your pet is not used to long car rides or being in unfamiliar places; they can become stressed and disoriented, which can lead to accidents or escape attempts.
However if your pet is seasoned traveler like Kaylee’s dogs bringing you pet along can strengthen the bond between you and your furry friend. Traveling with a pet can also provide much needed comfort and familiarity for those who may suffer from separation anxiety.
Gracie, my 10-year-old pup, is a master at travel. Put her in a car, a plane, or a train. She doesn’t seem phased as long as she is with me. My little Augie is a nervous wreck. We were on our first road trip and we took him shopping with us, let’s just say he enjoyed breakfast twice that day. I always say if you plan on traveling with your pet throughout their life, start them young it just makes it so much easier on you and them.

Consider where you are going
Taking your pet on along on a trip is great opportunity to create new memories and provide your pet with some adventure. Going for walks in new environments or playing in a new park can be a great way to spend time with your pet. There has also been an increase in pet-friendly accommodations, so it’s easier than ever to find places to stay that welcome your furry friend.
Keep in mind though a new place also has the potential to exposes your pet to different diseases, parasites, and other health risks. Some countries also have strict quarantine laws, which can result in you and your pet being separated for a long period of time, causing them to be stressed and uncomfortable!
What is the Purpose of your Trip

The last thing to consider is what is the purpose of your trip.
For a work trip where you plan to be out at meetings all day; will your pet be happy sitting in a strange place by themselves? Being left alone for long periods of time can cause some pets stress and anxiety which can sometimes be expressed through destructive behavior.
If your trip is a true out of office situation where you have all the time in the world to create memories with your pet then proceed full steam ahead.
It is a tough decision and sometimes you have to do what is best for your pet in the long run even though it is not exactly what you wanted.
